For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by photography. As a child growing up in Boston, I remember posing for my grandmother while my grandfather took pictures of me with his 35mm camera. As a young adult I studied in Australia and fell in love with the beauty of Tasmania through wilderness photography. I also developed an interest in environmental portraiture. Later in Napa Valley, California, USA, where I lived for almost three years, I began turning my love of a hobby into a career in wedding and portrait photography.

I was fortunate to be employed by a photography studio and some willing mentors. They trained me in all aspects of professional photography and Photoshop (the modern day darkroom). At first, I just assisted in photographing elopements and bigger weddings until I was confident enough to work independently. Once I developed my skills and gained experience overseas, I returned to Australia to start up my own photography business, which I have been running since 2009.

In addition, I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a Certificate IV in Small Business Management, and have been in employed in multiple marketing and sales roles – all areas of education and work experience that are relevant to effectively managing a wedding and portrait photography business. This professional expertise also includes copy writing and developing creative content for websites, print and social media. My travel writing, wilderness and lifestyle photography has been published in Australian travel magazines. Blogs I’ve written for tourism and other industries have been published online. I love images and words that speak to the heart and tell an emotive story.

Though I have worked in many different genres of photography – including commercial, corporate, lifestyle, maternity, newborn, baby and family portraiture – my focus is primarily on wedding photography (including engagement sessions and elopements, as well as big weddings). And I have photographed hundreds (up to 50 per year), mainly in and around Australia – from Tasmania to Brisbane, Byron Bay, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands, but also in North America and Bali, Indonesia. I love to travel and hope to photograph more destination weddings around Australia and the world.

I am grateful to be a dual citizen of Australia and North America; therefore I am delighted to embrace international marriages and different cultures. Same sex couples are also included in my circle of family and friends, and in my wedding photography portfolio. I regularly practice yoga which grounds me, and I enjoy being a photographer, writer and yogi!

My portfolio should give you a feel for my style, which I’d describe as authentic, emotive and timeless. I am both documentary and artistic with my approach, in that I aim to capture as well as create magical, heart-warming moments to be treasured for eternity. Please take time to explore each of my image galleries to decide if my style resonates with you. If so, then I look forward to hearing from you and discussing the possibility of my capturing your wedding or family!

Love, Jen
